I have to tell you this story from Friday night as well.

Me and the WPC were just going into the office to knock off at 2am. As we drove past the shops on the estate we were flagged down by some decorators who were painting the area at night. They tell us a guy had come from the pub and kicked a door window causing it to shatter.

We catch up with him, nick him and put him into the back of our car. As we do his brother comes over and the following conversation take place:

Brother - "Let him go he has done nothing wrong"

Me - "Yes he has he has broken the window, those guys saw him do it"

Brother - "I will pay for it just let him go, he has never been in trouble with the Police"

Me - "When was the last time he was in trouble with us?"

Brother "Ages about 10 years ago!"

I raise my eyes and walk to talk to the shop owner who has now arrived. He just wants the window paid for. So I see a way of dealing with this properly and get the guys details and his brothers and talk to his brother again

Me - "What has he been in trouble for"

Brother - "Nothing serious"

Me - "What was it and how long ago"

Brother - "Armed robbery where he served 10 years, came out and sent back for a gbh after he stabbed someone and got 8 years!"

Me - "Right ok, you goling to pay for the window?"

Brother - "Yep tomorrow morning my mate will come and fix it"

Me - (Turning to owner) "You happy with that?"

Owner - "Yep"

Me - "Good everyones happy, now fuck off home and let me go off duty!"

The drunk guy is kicked out the car, they all go home, we don't have another statistic to worry about and the window is fixed the next day

Bring back old fashioned coppering eh?? !! ??
