For the brainy ones amongst us!

Bit of catching up to do so here goes!

2 Fridays ago I was the sgt in charge of a van that was to do foot patrol in the city centre (oh how I love that duty!!) During briefing we were told about some lads who are stealing motorbikes and we should keep a lookout for one bike in particular which was believed to be in the posession of the usual suspects! So I decided we would do some patrol on my old patch.

Shortly after arriving we were sent to a wheel clamping incident where a guy had gone to collect his indian take away. When he came out he found he had been clamped. OK so there are signs up saying you will be clamped if you park there etc etc but you have to have bionoculars to read the fucking thing! To make it worse the charge to release the car was £150.00!!!!!!

Whilst talking to this irate driver one of our colleagues pressed her emergency button. All I heard was I've killed him I've killed him!!

We make our way to her to find a motorbike on the path, pointing the wrong way, and her plain Police car on the road pointing in the right direction. Two other colleagues were about 100 yards up the road doing CPR on a male on the path. I go to help them to find the lads brains on the path. He died at the scene in about 30 seconds.

As I am looking at him I am thinking to myself that I recognised him. I go back to where the bike is and as I do I see what can only be described as a sea of blue lights on the roundabout. It was a like a scene from hills street blues!

I look at the bike on the path and think to myself that this is the stolen bike we were told about, check it and hey presto it is the stolen bike! I get my technological miracle (thats a blackberry) from my pocket and bring up our briefing and remembered where I saw the lad before.

So there we have it. A motorbike thief riding at about 60 mph on a path, the wrong way, on a windy dark and rainy night with no crash helmet or other protective clothing - Opinions on a post card please?

For the record, the policewoman was not in any way involved in the accident. She was in the wrong place at the wrong time and this has been confirmed by independant witnesses who stopped at the scene.
