This Country is Mad!!

I have been around quite a bit and I have worked on various departments around my force, including major crime.

This entry is about the current state of murders in this country and how we deal with them from start to finish.

Don't I Know You?

Having worked on a few murder enquries, I have come to believe that most murders in this country are committed by people known to each other. Be they domestic related or drugs related it is safe to say most of the victims know their assailant. The offenders get dealt with by the Police and they go to trial for murder and on the whole are convicted. In fact I am unable to recall a case in recent years where the offender has not been convicted! So where does this leave us as a country when it comes to sentencing.

Eye For An Eye

A lot of people in this country are campaigning for capital punishment to be restored for offences such as murder, and you know what? I agree with them. I know this is a controversial view but bear with me and I will explain why I agree with this.

Lets say there is a pub fight and one of the persons involved punches the other and they fall over. As they do they hit their head and die. Murder? Not really, this will most probably be dealt with a manslaugher. The reason being is that there is no pre-mediated intent to kill them, it was just an unfortunate accident

Now lets take it the other way. Two young people are walking home from the pub and are confronted by some youths. During the confrontation one of the 15 year old girls stabs the female 43 times and the girl dies. Murder? Of course it is and she will be found guilty in the crown court!! There is a lot of debate of how we deal with offenders in court but the following story is beyond belief.

Jordan Jobson was sentenced to life imprisonment on the 7th April 2008 for the murder of Samantha Madgin aged 18. Here is an extract of the case:

"Budding model Sam died as she walked home in Wallsend, North Tyneside, with a group of friends following her first night out since giving birth to son Callum ten weeks earlier.

A row broke out with another group and, although Sam calmed things down before leading her friends away, Jobson chased and stabbed her."

Jobson was high on a cocktail of drink and drugs. She was 15 years old so what has gone wrong in society where a 15 year old girl is allowed to act this way?

I'll tell you shall I. We are too soft on them and they are allowed to get away with, hyperthetically speaking, murder!  When they do get arrested they have social services come out who insist on solicitors. When charged, they are wrapped in cotton wool in case the big bad justice system has an adverse impact on them??? What the **** are we talking about. Here we have a 15 year old girl, out of her head on drink and drugs, facing a criminal trial for murder and the barristers and judge take off their wigs in case they intimidate Jobson!!

She is now serving life imprisonment  with a minimum of 15 years. So when she gets out aged 30 she still has the rest of her life ahead of her and start to build it up again. What about Sam and her family. Sam will never see her 1 year old son grow up and the family will never be able to do what normal families do. Jobson knew what she was doing, she was found guilty of murder and should therefore recieve the same sentence as Sam's family. She should be subjected to the same painful death that Sam was.

Why is it in this country that we allow people to have a voice to the detriment of the law abiding society. If you, a tax paying individual, are burgled and the Police arrest your burglar this is what happens:

  • Offender is brought to custody and invited to seek advice from a solicitor. Paid for by legal aid (You the taxpayer)

  • The offender is charged and decides to go not guilty and has a solicitor. Paid for by legal aid (You the taxpayer)

  • Trial goes ahead with the solicitor or barrister. Paid for by legal aid (You the taxpayer)

  • Gets convicted and sentenced to a term in prison. Paid for by you the taxpayer

See where I am going here? Everything is set up for the offender and solicitors. As a tax paying victim you get nothing out of the system except for higher insurance premiums, and the disruption of having your house broken into by your local burglar. Compensation? Highly unlikely but if you do it will come from his or her benefit payments. Paid for by you the taxpayer.

Its comforting to know, is it not, that your hard earned taxes are going some way to helping your burglar get the trial he is entitled to and lining the pockets of the legal profession defending them. A message to Sams' mum.

I hope you find some comfort in the knowledge that your hard earned taxes have paid for the defence of your daughters murderer!!

A very sad story that does not bode well in a decent society we strive to live in. My thoughts and tears are with you at this very difficult time
