Being the dutiful public servant I am, I feel it is my duty to surf the internet when I can and report my findings. I was doing this yesterday and came across several articles relating to the way solicitors deal with their clients. One article that caught my eye relates to corrupt solicitors and they way they solicit business. Before I go on read this Interesting Article (The Private Investigator Heading Near The Bottom)

Can I Help?

I have already touched on the impact of the revamped legal aid system, which leads me to believe they have to solicit business whilst in custody, in the hope they will get a juicy case that will earn them more money

Like the Police, there are a very small percentage of solicitors that push the boundries to get a result. Sometimes those boundries are pushed beyond the limit, normally fuelled by greed and money. Before you shout me down in flames cast your eye over this article that talks about Naveen SAGAR who was intent on going beyond the call of duty to satisfy his financial greed

Its an interesting article. The first few paragraphs talk about his greed for a lavish lifestyle, but more interestingly it talks about how one of his clients, that used to have him on the payroll, turned against him in an effort to reduce his sentence. Read the article and you will see the lengths of deception and vast amounts of money involved

Unbelievable

Solicitors enjoy the veil of "Legal Privilege" and "Client Confidentiality" when it comes to their practices. One thing the Police do not have when it comes to prosecutions. So a corrupt solicitor is able to provide false identities, for criminal associates, allowing them to vist their boss in prison, posing as solicitors clerks and enjoying the "Client Confidentiality" clause. No Competition

Coming back to the point, I spend much of my time in custody. In recent months, a notice has gone up to say that all visitors, with the exception of Police personnel, are to hand in their mobile devices before entering custody. Asking why this had been implemented I was told the following.

Just before the policy was implemented, the duty solicitor was having a consultation, whilst this was happening the officer dealing with the suspect was off to do a house search. When he arrived at the house the partner of the prisoner was there with a cup of tea for the officer. Now it doesn't take detective to work out they were expecting the Police. As a result the property being sought was not at the house. The officer came back to the Police station and enquired why the intimation had been done, as he had asked for it to be done when he attended the house to avoid any property disposal. He was told it had not been done. Not thinking any more about it, the interview goes ahead and the suspect is charged and remanded.

When the jailers went to give him his meal, he asked if he could have a phone call and he was told he could, but it may be a while as they were very busy. The prisoner asked if the solicitor was still in the station and he was so he asked to speak to him. The solicitor was told about this and agreed to talk with him. About 30 minutes later, the jailer went to the cell to get the prisoner for his call to find him making a call on the solicitors mobile!

The officer in the case was told about this who duly spoke with the prisoner. It came out that the solicitor had allowed the prisoner to use his phone during the consultation and that is why the property was gone and the cup of tea was waiting!

Wasn't me Guv Honest

So much for "Client Confidentiality". What about peverting the course of justice?? The sad thing is I really like this solicitor but I think he went too far to make the client like him!

Still onward and upward. But remember one point if you are unfortunate enough to be a criminal. That friend you call "Your Solicitor" is not interested in being your friend, they just see you as a money making machine, and when they get bored with your case they will be "some-one elses solicitor"
