Raoul Moat - What went wrong?

Its been a while since I wrote an entry in this diary but I thought today was as good a day as any to start up again.

As you should know by now I am a uniformed sgt on shift in a busy town. I say it is busy but that is not strictly true. We are busy dealing with insignificant incidents that have been manipulated into a crime to satisfy the misunderstood national crime recording standards. What do I mean by this? Let me explain.

A member of the public has a facebook account [...]

Prison Does Work After All!

Had a busy night last night, very cold but some proper crime to deal with

I started my shift at 22:00. Did some admin, bollocked some PC's for being lazy not doing their victim updates and eventually went out to see what I can winkle out.

2:30am comes round and we get a call about a lady who is going to her shop that has an activated alarm . A car gets there and they find the place screwed and the shelves cleared of perfume! It was a good professional job and thankfully [...]

More Knife Crime

The above quote is from an earlier post and I just want to tell you this sorrry tale.

2 nights ago we were struggling with resources. The reason being was because they were tied up in custody with prisoners from ridiculous and minor assaults. When i say ridiculous and minor I mean no injury and because it has a domestic flag the offender is arrested, normally against the wishes of the other party! All these things seem to be, are arguments between two adults who would normally settle [...]

Went back last night to a set of lates before nights. About 6pm I went home to have some grub (Yes contrary to popular belief we do eat, we are not robots and yes I do like my donuts )

Anyway I decided after my meal to have a drive around and just as I was thinking about a cup of tea, a job come in for a "burglary in progress".
Wart?? Not me!

So after that little bit of excitement with the motorbike, we eventually go up the town to see everyone in nice warm clubs and pubs, enjoying themselves and having a good time whilst we stand in the freezing cold rain and wind!

The evening goes well with no arrests and the clubs start to kick out. I am joined by one of my colleagues and we stand waiting for the clubs to empty. A few minutes later 2 girls arrive in front of us and one is being consoled by her friend who is crying. We d [...]

For the brainy ones amongst us!

Bit of catching up to do so here goes!

2 Fridays ago I was the sgt in charge of a van that was to do foot patrol in the city centre (oh how I love that duty!!) During briefing we were told about some lads who are stealing motorbikes and we should keep a lookout for one bike in particular which was believed to be in the posession of the usual suspects! So I decided we would do some patrol on my old patch.

Shortly after arriving we were sent to a wheel clamping incident w [...]

Overworked CID!

Tuesday I am the patrol sgt who is responsible for making sure the jobs are resourced and monitoring any serious incidents.

The day started well with 22 officers, no handover prisoners and no cell watches or bed watches. Great!

I take the helm, start going through the jobs left over from the night shift which totals 13. They are all cleared by 11am and so we can start to clear some of the crap in our trays.

But wait!

I receive a call from the CID askin [...]

Victim? Not me...Really???

I don't know if I mentioned it but i have changed role and I am now a sgt on a shift

Started on Sunday officially at 7am. One of only 2 sgts (the other 2 were on leave). Didn't get too do much as I was moving all my kit over and getting to meet the new shift

However the PC's were absolutely shafted. We had 14 PC's with 17 prisoners to deal with from night before, 1 bed watch and one cell watch, and 23 jobs left over from the night shift still to attend including a violent d [...]

Damage the poles

I have to tell you this story from Friday night as well.

Me and the WPC were just going into the office to knock off at 2am. As we drove past the shops on the estate we were flagged down by some decorators who were painting the area at night. They tell us a guy had come from the pub and kicked a door window causing it to shatter.

We catch up with him, nick him and put him into the back of our car. As we do his brother comes over and the following conversation take place:<br [...]

At the moment I have responsibility for 14 PC's and 12 PCSO's on my area. I will leave you to guess which group are the hardest to manage!

I worked with a female PC (WPC for the olduns amongst us) for part of the night (the same one as the other night and she is good at her job I have to say!). We took a PCSO to a job some 3 miles away and went to our appointment, leaving him to deal with some crap job there.

En route, he started to tell me how proud he was for being the [...]

No Bicycle Lights!

Working Friday night with a WPC, (Not politically correct I know but can't be bothered at the moment!), when we saw a lad on a bike with no lights on going up a hill in the town where I work with a rucksack on. Given it was 10:30 or 11pm the ruck sack was not unusual. So we pulled along side him and my mate asked where his lights were to which he replied, "Why do I need lights you fat ****!" (her not me <img src="http://trustedtradesmen.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif" border="0" alt [...]

No Promotion For Me Then!

I am just about to complete my 25th year in the Police and I have never really had any ambition to be promoted.

I have worked on just about every department that I wanted to and so this year I decided to think about promotion. As you may know I have worked on a socially deprived estate that has some inherent problems. I had worked there for some 18 months and when the inspector asked me if I wanted to do acting Sgt I snapped his hand off. I just had to get through the beaurocratic [...]

Confidence in CPS?

Not me! Having spent many years in the Poliuce and seen the changes in the way we prosecute, I am quite disilousioned and quite frankly fed up with the games we play. Plus more often than not having the defence winning legal arguments!

From lawyers to barristers, all employed on behalf of or by the CPS, we seem to get the complete incompetants that can't even act the fool never mind for the Police but more importantly the victim!

The Great English Legal System

Well it is a along time since I have been here so I had better explain why

In December I moved house and have since been doing my new house up. I have also been tied up with two serious cases of arson with intent to endanger life which brings me nicely to the reason for the post.

In May 2008 there was a petrol bombing of a residents house resulting in their house being damaged, but more importantly their livelihood going up in smoke. Their minibus that ferries elderley and [...]

CID Officers

I have been asked by a few people to expand on how CID officers work and how they investigate crime. Well I am quite happy to tell you how they do basic investigations but anything more complex I will have to abstane

CID officers are considered to be more experienced and experts in the investigation of crime. This would have been true about 10-15 years ago but now we have this [...]

Senior Officers

It is always comforting to know that your chief constable will support you when you have done nothing wrong and they go on to make it a public event

In that article, the Chief Constable of Thames Valley Police, Sara THORNTON, refers to one of her sergeants and the discredit he has brought on her force, after some "internal" emails were sent by him. How can the e-mail have brought discredit on the force

{jomcomment}

Domestic Violence

Domestic Violence
Yep, its time again to highlight the way that some people live.

Picture the scene. I am walking on the estate on a lovely sunny Saturday morning about 2 weeks ago. I am just thinking of going to my appointment to get a statement when I am asked to go to a house on the other side to deal with a drunk female that has turned up at her sisters house.

I get there and the sister and her husband are angry to see her and I see the sister sat on the curb, crying uncontrol [...]

Back to work tonight and it is my turn again to meet my public in the town whilst they enjoy an evening out.
The evening is warm, and we are on the area by 9pm.

10pm comes and goes, 11pm comes and goes, 1am comes and goes. Well it seems we may be let off lightly tonight. 2am comes and goes and still nothing. This is great, off on time and no shit to deal with

3am arrives and I go and speak to the doorman at the last [...]

Stolen Vehicles

Thank God For Stupid Criminals
When I went back after some leave, I found I was allocated a crime where a punter had reported their car as stolen and it had been recovered. Without going into too much detail it would appear the loser of the car knew the driver as it was their partner.

This person is in quite a prominent position locally and had been given the opportunity to come clean but they failed. Hence why I now have a case of perverting the course of justice to investigate. Now thi [...]
